﴿وَقَالَتِ ٱلۡيَهُودُ وَٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰ نَحۡنُ أَبۡنَٰٓؤُاْ ٱللَّهِ وَأَحِبَّٰٓؤُهُۥۚ قُلۡ فَلِمَ يُعَذِّبُكُم بِذُنُوبِكُمۖ بَلۡ أَنتُم بَشَرٞ مِّمَّنۡ خَلَقَۚ يَغۡفِرُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيُعَذِّبُ مَن يَشَآءُۚ وَلِلَّهِ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَاۖ وَإِلَيۡهِ ٱلۡمَصِيرُ ﴾
[المَائدة: 18]
﴿وقالت اليهود والنصارى نحن أبناء الله وأحباؤه قل فلم يعذبكم بذنوبكم بل﴾ [المَائدة: 18]
| Dr Kamal Omar And said Al-Yahood and An-Nasaaraa: “We are the children of Allah and the loved ones to Him.” Say: “Then, for what (reason) does He punish you because of your sins?” Nay! You are human (beings) out of that He has created. He forgives for whom He thinks proper and He punishes whom He thinks proper. And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between those two, and to Him is the Final Abode |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And the Jews and Christians said: We are the children of God and His beloved. Say: Why, then, does He punish you for your impieties? Nay! You are mortals whom He created. He forgives whom He wills and He punishes whom He wills. And to God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and what is even between the two. And to Him is the Homecoming |

Ask them, "Then, why does He punish you (and makes you pay) for your sins. In fact, you are humans like all others He has created. He forgives whom He wants, and He punishes whom He wants! To Him belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and everything else between them. Towards Him is the final return (of all beings) |

| Maududi The Jews and the Christians say: ´We are Allah´s children and His beloved ones.´ Ask them: ´Why, then, does He chastise you for your sins?´ You are the same as other men He has created. He forgives whom He wills and chastises whom He wills. And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them. To Him is the eventual return |
