﴿قُلۡ يَٰٓأَهۡلَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ لَسۡتُمۡ عَلَىٰ شَيۡءٍ حَتَّىٰ تُقِيمُواْ ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةَ وَٱلۡإِنجِيلَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيۡكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡۗ وَلَيَزِيدَنَّ كَثِيرٗا مِّنۡهُم مَّآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيۡكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ طُغۡيَٰنٗا وَكُفۡرٗاۖ فَلَا تَأۡسَ عَلَى ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ ﴾
[المَائدة: 68]
﴿قل ياأهل الكتاب لستم على شيء حتى تقيموا التوراة والإنجيل وما أنـزل﴾ [المَائدة: 68]
| Dr Kamal Omar Say: “O people who possess Al-Kitab! You are not on anything until you establish At-Taurat and Al-Injeel and what has been sent down to you from your Nourisher-Sustainer. And verily, increases most of them, whatever has been sent to you from your Nourisher-Sustainer, in obstinate rebellion and disbelief. So do not grieve for the nation of disbelievers |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Say: O People of the Book! You are not based on anything until you adhere to the Torah and the Gospel and what was caused to descend to you from your Lord. And, certainly, many of them increase by what was caused to descend to thee from thy Lord in defiance and ingratitude. So grieve not for folk, the ones who are ungrateful |
| Dr Munir Munshey Say, "Oh people of the book! You are not at all rightly guided unless you put into practice the Torah, the Gospel, and other revelations sent to you by your Lord." (Oh Muhammad, SAW) the fact is, what your Lord has revealed to you has rather increased the (attitude of) rebellion and disbelief in most of them. Do not grieve or feel sorry for the unbelieving nation |
| Edward Henry Palmer Say, 'O people of the Book! ye rest on naught until ye stand fast by the law and the gospel, and what is revealed to you from your Lord.' But what has been revealed to thee from thy Lord will of a surety increase many of them in rebellion and misbelief, vex not thyself then for a people who misbelieve |
| Farook Malik Tell them: O people of the Book! You have no ground to stand on unless you observe the Torah, Gospel and other revelations that have come to you from your Lord. This revelation (The Qur'an) which has come to you from your Lord will surely increase the rebellion and disbelief of many of them but you should not grieve for the disbelievers |
| George Sale Say, O ye who have received the scriptures, ye are not grounded on any thing, until ye observe the law and the gospel, and that which hath been sent down unto you from your Lord. That which hath been sent down unto thee from thy Lord shall surely increase the transgression and infidelity of many of them: But be not thou solicitous for the unbelieving people |
| Maududi Say to them: ´People of the Book! You have no solid ground to stand on unless you establish the Torah and the Gospel and all that had been revealed to you from your Lord. Indeed the message revealed to you from your Lord will aggravate insurgence and unbelief in many of them. So do not grieve for those who disbelieve |
