﴿ٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ أَيۡمَٰنَهُمۡ جُنَّةٗ فَصَدُّواْ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ مُّهِينٞ ﴾
[المُجَادلة: 16]
﴿اتخذوا أيمانهم جنة فصدوا عن سبيل الله فلهم عذاب مهين﴾ [المُجَادلة: 16]
| Dr Kamal Omar They have utilized their oaths as a shield; so they have hindered people from the Way of Allah, so for them is a disgracing punishment |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar They took their oaths to themselves as a pretext and they barred from the way of God. So for them is a despised punishment |
| Dr Munir Munshey They use their oaths as their shields, and they prevent people from the path of Allah. A disgraceful punishment is (in store) for them |
| Edward Henry Palmer They take their faith for a cloak; and they turn men aside from the path of God; and for them is shameful woe |
| Farook Malik They use their oaths as shields, and debar others from the Way of Allah. They shall have a humiliating punishment |
| George Sale They have taken their oaths for a cloak, and they have turned men aside from the way of God: Wherefore a shameful punishment awaiteth them |
| Maududi They have taken their oaths as a shield by means of which they hinder people from the Way of Allah. Theirs shall be a humiliating chastisement |
