Quran with Tafsir_English translation - Surah Al-An‘am ayat 146 - الأنعَام - Page - Juz 8
﴿وَعَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُواْ حَرَّمۡنَا كُلَّ ذِي ظُفُرٖۖ وَمِنَ ٱلۡبَقَرِ وَٱلۡغَنَمِ حَرَّمۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ شُحُومَهُمَآ إِلَّا مَا حَمَلَتۡ ظُهُورُهُمَآ أَوِ ٱلۡحَوَايَآ أَوۡ مَا ٱخۡتَلَطَ بِعَظۡمٖۚ ذَٰلِكَ جَزَيۡنَٰهُم بِبَغۡيِهِمۡۖ وَإِنَّا لَصَٰدِقُونَ ﴾
[الأنعَام: 146]
﴿وعلى الذين هادوا حرمنا كل ذي ظفر ومن البقر والغنم حرمنا عليهم﴾ [الأنعَام: 146]
| Dr Kamal Omar And unto those who Haadoo (became Jews) We prohibited (through their man-written literature) all (animals) who have hoofs (in undivided form). And (through this very literature) out of the oxen and the sheep, We prohibited to them the fat of these two except what the backs of these two (animals) held (under their skin) or their entrails or that which fully adhered to the bone. This is (the permanent) punishment-reward We gave them for their rebellion (for accepting books, other than Al-Kitab, as the source for Allah’s Verdicts). And verily, We are definitely Truthful |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And to those who became Jews, We forbade every possessor of claws. And of the cows and the herd of sheep, We forbade them their fat, but what their backs carried or entrails or what mingled with bone. Thus, we gave them recompense for their insolence and We are, truly, ones who are sincere |
| Dr Munir Munshey For those who became Jews, We had forbidden all animals clad with claws. We forbade them the fat of the ox and the goat, except what the animal carries around its back and the fat that sticks to the bones. We did that to punish them for their rebellion, and We certainly tell the truth |

| George Sale Unto the Jews did We forbid every beast having an undivided hoof; and of bullocks and sheep, We forbade them the fat of both; except that which should be on their backs, or their inwards, or which should be intermixed with the bone. This have We rewarded them with, because of their iniquity; and We are surely speakers of truth |
| Maududi And to those who had Judaized We have forbidden all beasts with claws, and the fat of oxen and sheep except the fat which is either on their backs or their entrails, or that which sticks to the bones. Thus did We requite them for their rebellion. Surely We state the Truth |
