﴿أَلَمۡ يَرَوۡاْ كَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِهِم مِّن قَرۡنٖ مَّكَّنَّٰهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مَا لَمۡ نُمَكِّن لَّكُمۡ وَأَرۡسَلۡنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيۡهِم مِّدۡرَارٗا وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرَ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهِمۡ فَأَهۡلَكۡنَٰهُم بِذُنُوبِهِمۡ وَأَنشَأۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ قَرۡنًا ءَاخَرِينَ ﴾
[الأنعَام: 6]
﴿ألم يروا كم أهلكنا من قبلهم من قرن مكناهم في الأرض ما﴾ [الأنعَام: 6]
| Dr Kamal Omar Have they not pondered how many We destroyed before them out of generation(s) — We established them on the earth to the extent We did not establish (the civilization) for you. And We showered (from) the heaven over them in abundance and We made the rivers flow from underneath them. Then We destroyed them for their sins and We brought into being after them a generation of latter ones |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Consider they not how many a generation before them We caused to perish? We established them firmly in and on the earth such as We firmly establish not for you. And We sent abundant rain from heaven. And We made rivers run beneath them. So We caused them to perish for their impieties and We caused to grow after them other generations |
| Dr Munir Munshey Do they not see how many generations have We destroyed prior to them? We did not establish you in the land as firmly as We had established them. For them, We poured rain down from the sky and We ran rivers right through their land. Then, because of their sins, We destroyed all of them. In their place we started other nations |

We had established them in the earth as We have not established you and We sent the clouds over them, pouring down abundant rain; and We caused streams to flow beneath them; then did We destroy them because of their sins and raised up after them another generation |
| Maududi Have they not seen how many a people We have destroyed before them? People whom We had made more powerful in the earth than you are and upon them We showered from the heavens abundant rains, and at whose feet We caused the rivers to flow? And then (when they behaved ungratefully) We destroyed them for their sins, and raised other peoples in their place |
