﴿وَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرۡيَةٍ عَتَتۡ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهَا وَرُسُلِهِۦ فَحَاسَبۡنَٰهَا حِسَابٗا شَدِيدٗا وَعَذَّبۡنَٰهَا عَذَابٗا نُّكۡرٗا ﴾
[الطَّلَاق: 8]
﴿وكأين من قرية عتت عن أمر ربها ورسله فحاسبناها حسابا شديدا وعذبناها﴾ [الطَّلَاق: 8]
Dr Kamal Omar And how many a city rebelled against the ordainment of its Nourisher-Sustainer and His Messengers — so We put it to accountability, a most severe accountability and We punished it in a horrible punishment |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar How many a town defied the command of its Lord and His Messengers, so we made a reckoning, a severe reckoning and We punished it with a horrible punishment |
Dr Munir Munshey So many communities (in the past) have been insolent and arrogant towards the commandments of their Lord, and His messengers. So, very harshly We called them to account. We inflicted upon them a severe punishment |
