﴿وَإِذۡ قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱسۡكُنُواْ هَٰذِهِ ٱلۡقَرۡيَةَ وَكُلُواْ مِنۡهَا حَيۡثُ شِئۡتُمۡ وَقُولُواْ حِطَّةٞ وَٱدۡخُلُواْ ٱلۡبَابَ سُجَّدٗا نَّغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡ خَطِيٓـَٰٔتِكُمۡۚ سَنَزِيدُ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ ﴾
[الأعرَاف: 161]
﴿وإذ قيل لهم اسكنوا هذه القرية وكلوا منها حيث شئتم وقولوا حطة﴾ [الأعرَاف: 161]
| Dr Kamal Omar And (bring to mind) when it was said to them: “Dwell in this town and eat therefrom wherever you wished, and say: Hittatun (repentance) and enter the gate in submission and obedience: We shall forgive you your wrong-doings. Soon We shall increase those who do good in perfection — (in their shares and rewards) |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And mention when it was said to them: Inhabit this town and eat from it wherever you willed. Say: Unburden us of sin! And enter the door as ones who prostrate themselves We will forgive you your transgressions. We will increase the ones who are doers of good |
| Dr Munir Munshey (Remember) when they were told, "Live in this town, and eat here whatever your hearts desire. But (you must) say ´forgive our sins´ and enter the gate (of the town) prostrate, and crawling on all four. We will forgive your sins and We will increase the reward of the righteous |

| George Sale And remember the time when it was said to them, 'Dwell in this town and eat therefrom wherever you will, and say, 'God! lighten our burden,' and enter the gate in humility, We shall forgive you your sins, and surely We shall give increase to those who do good |
| Maududi And recall when it was said to them: ´Dwell in this town and eat plentifully of whatever you please, and say: "Repentance", and enter the gate prostrate. We shall forgive you your sins and shall bestow further favours on those who do good.´ |
