﴿إِنَّآ أَنذَرۡنَٰكُمۡ عَذَابٗا قَرِيبٗا يَوۡمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مَا قَدَّمَتۡ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلۡكَافِرُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَٰبَۢا ﴾
[النَّبَإ: 40]
﴿إنا أنذرناكم عذابا قريبا يوم ينظر المرء ما قدمت يداه ويقول الكافر﴾ [النَّبَإ: 40]
Dr Kamal Omar Verily We, We have warned you people of a torment very closeby — the Day a man will see what his two hands have sent forth in advance. And the disbeliever will say: “Oh, alas for me! Would that I were dust!” |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar We warned you of a near punishment on a Day when a man will look on what his hands put forward and the ones who are ungrateful will say: O would that I had been earth dust |
Dr Munir Munshey We have certainly warned you of the (imminent and) impending doom. On that day, man would look at the deeds he had sent ahead; he would say, "Alas! if I were only dust |
Edward Henry Palmer Verily, we have warned you of a torment that is nigh: on a day when man shall see what his two hands have sent forward; and the misbeliever shall say, 'Would that I were dust |
Farook Malik Indeed We have forewarned you of an imminent punishment which lies close-at-hand, on the Day when man shall see what his hands have sent forth and the unbeliever will cry: "I wish! I could remain merely dust |
George Sale Verily We threaten you with a punishment nigh at hand: The day whereon a man shall behold the good or evil deeds which his hands have sent before him; and the unbeliever shall say, would to God I were dust |
Maududi Lo! We warn you of a chastisement near at hand; the Day when a man will look on what his own hands have sent forth, and the unbelievers shall say: "Oh would that I were utter dust |
