﴿إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُنفِقُونَ أَمۡوَٰلَهُمۡ لِيَصُدُّواْ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۚ فَسَيُنفِقُونَهَا ثُمَّ تَكُونُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ حَسۡرَةٗ ثُمَّ يُغۡلَبُونَۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ يُحۡشَرُونَ ﴾
[الأنفَال: 36]
﴿إن الذين كفروا ينفقون أموالهم ليصدوا عن سبيل الله فسينفقونها ثم تكون﴾ [الأنفَال: 36]
| Dr Kamal Omar Verily, those who have disbelieved spend their wealth (and possessions) so that they may obstruct people from the Path of Allah. So they will (continue to) spend it, afterwards it will become an anguish over them. Afterwards they will be overpowered. And those who have disbelieved, will be gathered unto Hell |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Truly, those who were ungrateful spend their wealth so that they bar the way of God. They will spend it. Again, it will become a regret for them. Again, they will be vanquished. And those who were ungrateful will be assembled in hell |
| Dr Munir Munshey In fact, those who have denied (the truth) spend their wealth in order to turn people away from the path of Allah, and they will continue to do so. Later, it would become a source of anguish and regret for them. Then, they shall be overcome. (All) those who have disbelieved shall (then) be gathered towards the hell |

| Farook Malik Surely the unbelievers spend their wealth in blocking the way of Allah and so will they continue to spend; but in the end these very efforts will become the cause of their regrets; at length they will be defeated, and in the hereafter these unbelievers will be gathered together and driven to hell |
| George Sale Surely, those who disbelieve, spend their wealth to turn people away from the way of God. They will surely continue to spend it; but then shall it become a source of regret for them, and then shall they be overcome. And the disbelievers shall be gathered unto Hell |
| Maududi Surely those who deny the truth spend their wealth to hinder people from the way of Allah, and will continue to so spend until their efforts become a source of intense regret for them, and then they will be vanquished, and then these deniers of the truth will be driven to Hell |
