Quran with British translation - Surah Al-Baqarah ayat 96 - البَقَرَة - Page - Juz 1
﴿وَلَتَجِدَنَّهُمۡ أَحۡرَصَ ٱلنَّاسِ عَلَىٰ حَيَوٰةٖ وَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَشۡرَكُواْۚ يَوَدُّ أَحَدُهُمۡ لَوۡ يُعَمَّرُ أَلۡفَ سَنَةٖ وَمَا هُوَ بِمُزَحۡزِحِهِۦ مِنَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ أَن يُعَمَّرَۗ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرُۢ بِمَا يَعۡمَلُونَ ﴾
[البَقَرَة: 96]
﴿ولتجدنهم أحرص الناس على حياة ومن الذين أشركوا يود أحدهم لو يعمر﴾ [البَقَرَة: 96]
Mohammad Habib Shakir And you will most certainly find them the greediest of men for life (greedier) than even those who are polytheists; every one of them loves that he should be granted a life of a thousand years, and his being granted a long life will in no way remove him further off from the chastisement, and Allah sees what they do |
Mohammad Shafi And you will indeed find themto be persons greedy for life — more so even than the polytheists! Every one of them longs for a life of a thousand years. But no long life can serve as a saviour for him/her from the punishment. And Allah is vigilant over all they do |

And to live (a thousand years) would be no means remove him from the doom. Allah is Seer of what they do |
