﴿وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ فَإِذَآ أُوذِيَ فِي ٱللَّهِ جَعَلَ فِتۡنَةَ ٱلنَّاسِ كَعَذَابِ ٱللَّهِۖ وَلَئِن جَآءَ نَصۡرٞ مِّن رَّبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ إِنَّا كُنَّا مَعَكُمۡۚ أَوَلَيۡسَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَعۡلَمَ بِمَا فِي صُدُورِ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ﴾
[العَنكبُوت: 10]
﴿ومن الناس من يقول آمنا بالله فإذا أوذي في الله جعل فتنة﴾ [العَنكبُوت: 10]
| Dr Kamal Omar And of mankind (is that) who says: “We have Believed in Allah,” then when he was made to suffer ‘in (the Cause of) Allah’, he regarded the test and trial at the hands of humans like a punishment from Allah. And surely, if there came assistance from your Nourisher-Sustainer (leading to a Muslim victory), surely (the hypocrites will immediately) say: “Verily, we have remained alongwith you (Muslims)!” Is then not Allah more aware of what is in the chests of the worlds |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And of humanity is he who says: We believed in God. But, when he was maligned for the sake of God, he mistook the persecution by humanity for a punishment by God. And if help drew near from thy Lord, they would, surely, say: We had been with you. Is not God greater in knowledge of what is in the breasts of beings |
| Dr Munir Munshey And among the people are those who say, ´we believe in Allah!´, but when they are bothered because of their belief in Allah they consider the suffering caused by the people to be equal to the punishment inflicted by Allah. If victory comes from Allah, they will say, "Of course, we were with you." Isn´t Allah aware of whatever lies in the heart of everyone in the world |
| Edward Henry Palmer And there are those among men who say, 'We believe in God!' but when they are hurt in God's cause, they deem the trials of men like the torment of God; but if help come from thy Lord they will say, 'Verily, we were with you!' does not God know best what is in the breasts of the worlds |
| Farook Malik There are some among people, who say: "We believe in Allah;" yet when they suffer in the cause of Allah they confuse the persecution of people with the punishment of Allah. But when there comes help in the shape of a victory from your Lord, they are sure to say: "We have always been with you." Is not Allah fully aware of what is in the hearts of the people of the world |
| George Sale There are some men who say, we believe in God: But when such a one is afflicted for God's sake, he esteemeth the persecution of men to be as grievous as the punishment of God. Yet if success cometh from thy Lord, they say, verily we are with you. Doth not God well know that which is in the breasts of his creatures |
| Maududi Among people there are some who say: "We believe in Allah." But when such a person is made to endure suffering in Allah´s cause, he reckons the persecution he suffers at the hands of people as though it is a chastisement from Allah. But if victory comes from your Lord, the same person will say "We were with you." Does Allah not know whatever is in the hearts of the people of the world |
