﴿وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّبِعُواْ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ قَالُواْ بَلۡ نَتَّبِعُ مَا وَجَدۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ ءَابَآءَنَآۚ أَوَلَوۡ كَانَ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ يَدۡعُوهُمۡ إِلَىٰ عَذَابِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ ﴾
[لُقمَان: 21]
﴿وإذا قيل لهم اتبعوا ما أنـزل الله قالوا بل نتبع ما وجدنا﴾ [لُقمَان: 21]
Dr Kamal Omar And when it is said to them: “Follow that which Allah has sent down,” they said: “Nay, we shall (only) follow that on which we found our fathers.” Would they then do so even if Satan invites them to the torment of the Fire |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And when it was said to them: Follow what God caused to descend. They said: Nay! We will follow what we found our fathers on. Even if it Satan had been calling them to the punishment of the blaze |
Dr Munir Munshey They are being asked to obey that which Allah has revealed. In response they say, "No! We would rather practice that, upon which we found our forefathers." Would they still follow this practice, even if they find ´Shaitan´ inviting them towards the punishment of fire |

Maududi When they are told: "Follow what Allah has revealed," they say: "We will rather follow that which we have found our forefathers following." (Will they follow that) even though Satan might invite them to the chastisement of the Blazing Fire |
