﴿لَّيۡسَ عَلَى ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ حَرَجٞ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلۡأَعۡرَجِ حَرَجٞ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلۡمَرِيضِ حَرَجٞۗ وَمَن يُطِعِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ يُدۡخِلۡهُ جَنَّٰتٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُۖ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّ يُعَذِّبۡهُ عَذَابًا أَلِيمٗا ﴾
[الفَتح: 17]
﴿ليس على الأعمى حرج ولا على الأعرج حرج ولا على المريض حرج﴾ [الفَتح: 17]
| Dr Kamal Omar No blame (is applicable) to that who is blind, and nor there is blame upon that who is lame, and nor there is blame on one who is down with sickness (if they did not volunteer themselves for Qital,). And whosoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, He will admit him to Gardens, flow underneath them rivers. And whoever will turn back, He will punish him with a painful torment |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar There is neither a fault on the blind, nor a fault on the lame, nor a fault on the sick, and whoever obeys God and His Messenger, He will cause him to enter Gardens beneath which rivers run. And whoever turns away, He will punish him with a painful punishment |
| Dr Munir Munshey There is no blame upon the blind and the lame (those handicapped); nor upon those who are sick. (They may not heed the call to Jihad, all-out struggle for His sake). Allah will usher into the gardens of paradise _ right through which run the rivers _ all those who obey Him, and His messenger. He will punish with the painful torment anyone who turns his back |
| Edward Henry Palmer There is no compulsion on the blind, and no compulsion on the lame, and no compulsion on the sick, but whoso obeys God and His Apostle, He will make him enter gardens beneath which rivers flow; but whoso turns his back He will torment with grievous woe |
| Farook Malik There is no blame on the blind, the lame, and the sick if they stay behind. He that obeys Allah and His Messenger shall be admitted to gardens beneath which the rivers flow, and he that turns away shall be punished with a painful punishment |
| George Sale It shall be no crime in the blind, neither shall it be a crime in the lame, neither shall it be a crime in the sick, if they go not forth to war: And whoso shall obey God and his apostle, he shall lead him into gardens beneath which rivers flow; but whoso shall turn back, He will chastise him with a grievous chastisement |
| Maududi There is no blame on the blind, nor on the lame, nor on the sick (if they do not go forth to fight). Allah will admit those who obey Allah and His Messenger to the Gardens beneath which rivers flow and will inflict a grievous chastisement on those who turn away |
