Quran with Tafsir_English translation - Surah Al-An‘am ayat 138 - الأنعَام - Page - Juz 8
Dr Kamal Omar And they said: “Such and such cattle and crop are forbidden. None shall eat them except whom we desire,” ( — and this they said) on the basis of their concocted beliefs. And (there are) cattle — their backs have been made (by them) forbidden (to carry any loads); and (there are) cattle they do not pronounce the Name of Allah over them (as they believe that it is forbidden to slaughter them or to eat their flesh) lying against Him (as they invent these lies in the name of religion). Soon He will recompense them (with due punishment) for what they used to fabricate |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And they said: These flocks and cultivation are banned. None should taste them, but whom we will, so they claim. And there are flocks whose backs were forbidden and flocks that they remember not the Name of God on it, a devising against Him. He will give them recompense for what they had been devising |
Dr Munir Munshey Of their own accord, they (make certain rules and) declare, "(The meat of) this animal and (the crop of) that field are prohibited. No one can eat its (meat, fruit or) produce except whomever we allow." They prohibit certain animals to be employed for farm labor (or for burden). On certain other animals they do not invoke Allah´s name (at the time of their slaughter). They invent lies against Him! Soon He will punish them for the falsehood they invent |
Edward Henry Palmer And they say, 'These cattle and tilth are inviolable; none shall taste thereof, save such as we please' - as they pretend - and there are cattle whose backs are prohibited, and cattle over whom God's name is not pronounced,- forging a lie against Him! He shall reward them for what they have forged |
Farook Malik These pagans say that such and such cattle and crops are reserved, in the name of such and such temple, and no one should eat except those whom we permit - in fact these restrictions they themselves have imposed. Then there are some animals which they have prohibited from riding or carrying loads, and there are still other animals over which they do not pronounce the name of Allah. They have falsely attributed all these things to Him. Soon He will requite them for their invented lies |
George Sale They also say, these cattle and fruits of the earth are sacred; none shall eat thereof but who we please, -- according to their imagination; -- and there are cattle whose backs are forbidden to be rode on, or loaden with burdens; and there are cattle on which they commemorate not the name of God when they slay them, devising a lie against him: God shall reward them for that which they falsely devise |
Maududi They say: ´These animals and these crops are sacrosanct: none may eat of them save those whom we will´ - imposing interdictions of their own contriving. And they declare that it is forbidden to burden the backs of certain cattle, and these are the cattle over which they do not pronounce the name of Allah. All these are false fabrications against Allah, and He will soon requite them for all that they fabricate |
