إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ (1)
When the sun shall be folded up |
وَإِذَا النُّجُومُ انكَدَرَتْ (2)
when the stars shall scatter away |
وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ (3)
when the mountains shall be set in motion |
وَإِذَا الْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ (4)
when the ten-months pregnant camels shall be abandoned |
وَإِذَا الْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ (5)
when the savage beasts shall be brought together |
وَإِذَا الْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ (6)
when the seas shall be set boiling |
وَإِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ (7)
when the souls shall be rejoined (with their bodies) |
وَإِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ (8)
and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked |
بِأَيِّ ذَنبٍ قُتِلَتْ (9)
for what offence was she killed |
وَإِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ (10)
and when the scrolls of (men's) deeds shall be unfolded |
وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ كُشِطَتْ (11)
and when Heaven is laid bare |
وَإِذَا الْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ (12)
and Hell is stoked |
وَإِذَا الْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ (13)
and Paradise brought nigh |
عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّا أَحْضَرَتْ (14)
then shall each person know what he has brought along |
فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِ (15)
No indeed; I swear by the alternating stars |
الْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِ (16)
that hide |
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ (17)
and by the night as it recedes |
وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ (18)
and the morn as it breathes |
إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ (19)
Verily this is the word of a noble message-bearer |
ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ (20)
one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne |
مُّطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ (21)
there he is obeyed and held trustworthy |
وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجْنُونٍ (22)
(O people of Makkah), your companion is not mad |
وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ بِالْأُفُقِ الْمُبِينِ (23)
he indeed saw the message-bearer on the clear horizon |
وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ (24)
nor does he grudge (conveying this knowledge about) the Unseen |
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَانٍ رَّجِيمٍ (25)
nor is it a word of an accursed Satan |
فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ (26)
Where to are you then heading |
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَالَمِينَ (27)
It is nothing but Good Counsel for everyone in the world |
لِمَن شَاءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ (28)
for everyone of you who wishes to follow the Straight Way |
وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ (29)
but your wishing will not avail unless Allah, the Lord of the Universe, so wishes |
