Quran with British translation - Surah Al-Mu’minun ayat 24 - المؤمنُون - Page - Juz 18
﴿فَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَؤُاْ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٞ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ يُرِيدُ أَن يَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ وَلَوۡ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَنزَلَ مَلَٰٓئِكَةٗ مَّا سَمِعۡنَا بِهَٰذَا فِيٓ ءَابَآئِنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ﴾
[المؤمنُون: 24]
﴿فقال الملأ الذين كفروا من قومه ما هذا إلا بشر مثلكم يريد﴾ [المؤمنُون: 24]
| Mohammad Habib Shakir And the chiefs of those who disbelieved from among his people said: He is nothing but a mortal like yourselves who desires that he may have superiority over you, and if Allah had pleased, He could certainly have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our fathers of yore |
| Mohammad Shafi And then the leaders of those who suppressed the Truth from among his people said, "He is nothing but a man, like you. He desires to gain superiority over you. And if Allah had willed, He could certainly have sent down angels. We have not heard of such a thing happening during our forefathers' time |
| Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall But the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved, said: This is only a mortal like you who would make himself superior to you. Had Allah willed, He surely could have sent down angels. We heard not of this in the case of our fathers of old |
