وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ (1)
By the night when it covers |
وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ (2)
and by the day when it appears |
وَمَا خَلَقَ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنثَىٰ (3)
and by His creation of male and female |
إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّىٰ (4)
surely your efforts are divergent |
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ وَاتَّقَىٰ (5)
As for the one who gives in charity and fears Allah |
وَصَدَّقَ بِالْحُسْنَىٰ (6)
and truly believes in the best reward |
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ (7)
We will make easy for him the way of salvation |
وَأَمَّا مَن بَخِلَ وَاسْتَغْنَىٰ (8)
But as for the one who is miserly and deems himself self-sufficient |
وَكَذَّبَ بِالْحُسْنَىٰ (9)
and denies the best reward |
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْعُسْرَىٰ (10)
We will make easy for him the way of perdition |
وَمَا يُغْنِي عَنْهُ مَالُهُ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰ (11)
His wealth will be of no avail to him when he tumbles [into Hell] |
إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَىٰ (12)
Indeed, it is upon Us to show the right way |
وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْآخِرَةَ وَالْأُولَىٰ (13)
and surely to Us belong the Hereafter and the present life |
فَأَنذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًا تَلَظَّىٰ (14)
So I warn you of a raging Fire |
لَا يَصْلَاهَا إِلَّا الْأَشْقَى (15)
none will enter it except the most wretched |
الَّذِي كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ (16)
who denied and turned away |
وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا الْأَتْقَى (17)
But the most righteous will be saved from it |
الَّذِي يُؤْتِي مَالَهُ يَتَزَكَّىٰ (18)
who spends his wealth to purify himself |
وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُ مِن نِّعْمَةٍ تُجْزَىٰ (19)
not in return for someone’s favors |
إِلَّا ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ الْأَعْلَىٰ (20)
but to seek the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High |
وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضَىٰ (21)
He will surely be well pleased |
