إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ (1)
When the sun is wrapped up in darkness |
وَإِذَا النُّجُومُ انكَدَرَتْ (2)
and when the stars are scattered |
وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ (3)
and when the mountains are vanished |
وَإِذَا الْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ (4)
and when pregnant camels are left unattended |
وَإِذَا الْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ (5)
and when wild beasts are gathered |
وَإِذَا الْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ (6)
and when the seas are set on fire |
وَإِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ (7)
and when the souls are sorted |
وَإِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ (8)
and when the baby girl buried alive is asked |
بِأَيِّ ذَنبٍ قُتِلَتْ (9)
for what crime she was killed |
وَإِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ (10)
and when records of deeds are spread open |
وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ كُشِطَتْ (11)
and when the sky is stripped away |
وَإِذَا الْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ (12)
and when the Blazing Fire is flared up |
وَإِذَا الْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ (13)
and when Paradise is brought near – |
عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّا أَحْضَرَتْ (14)
then every soul will know what it has brought about |
فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِ (15)
I swear by the receding stars |
الْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِ (16)
that rise and hide |
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ (17)
and by the night as it departs |
وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ (18)
and by the day as it breaks – |
إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ (19)
Indeed, this [Qur’an] is a word conveyed by a noble angel-messenger |
ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ (20)
extremely powerful, highly revered with the Lord of the Throne |
مُّطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ (21)
obeyed [by other angels] and moreover, trustworthy |
وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجْنُونٍ (22)
Your fellow [the Prophet] is not madman |
وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ بِالْأُفُقِ الْمُبِينِ (23)
He indeed saw him [Gabriel] on the clear horizon |
وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ (24)
He does not withhold [knowledge of] the unseen |
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَانٍ رَّجِيمٍ (25)
This [Qur’an] is not the word of an accursed devil |
فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ (26)
So which way are you going |
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَالَمِينَ (27)
It is but a reminder to the worlds |
لِمَن شَاءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ (28)
for those among you who wish to take the straight path |
وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ (29)
But you cannot wish except by the Will of Allah, the Lord of the worlds |
