وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ (1) Woe to the defrauders |
الَّذِينَ إِذَا اكْتَالُوا عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ (2) those who take full measure when they take from others |
وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ (3) but they give less when they measure or weigh for them |
أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُولَٰئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ (4) Do they really not think that they will be resurrected |
لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ (5) for a momentous Day |
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ (6) a Day when people will stand before the Lord of the worlds |
كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٍ (7) No indeed! The record of the wicked is surely in Sijjīn |
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ (8) How do you know what Sijjīn is |
كِتَابٌ مَّرْقُومٌ (9) It is a clearly inscribed Record |
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ (10) Woe on that Day to the deniers |
الَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ (11) those who deny the Judgment Day |
وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ (12) None denies it except every sinful transgressor |
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ (13) When Our verses are recited to him, he says, “Ancient fables!” |
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ (14) No indeed! Their hearts have been stained by what they used to commit |
كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ (15) No indeed! On that Day they will be barred from seeing their Lord |
ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُو الْجَحِيمِ (16) They will then surely enter the Blazing Fire |
ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ (17) then they will be told, “This is what you used to deny.” |
كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْأَبْرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ (18) No indeed! The record of the righteous is certainly in ‘illiyyīn – |
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ (19) and how do you know what ‘illiyyūn is? – |
كِتَابٌ مَّرْقُومٌ (20) It is a record inscribed |
يَشْهَدُهُ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ (21) witnessed by those who are close to Allah |
إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ (22) Indeed, the righteous will be in Bliss |
عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنظُرُونَ (23) seated on the couches, gazing in wonder |
تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ (24) You will see on their faces the radiance of bliss |
يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ (25) They will be served to drink pure wine from a sealed container |
خِتَامُهُ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِي ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَافِسُونَ (26) whose last sip is musk – let those who strive, strive for that – |
وَمِزَاجُهُ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ (27) and it will be mixed with water from the spring of Tasnīm |
عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا الْمُقَرَّبُونَ (28) a spring from which those who are close to Allah will drink |
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا كَانُوا مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَضْحَكُونَ (29) Indeed, the wicked used to laugh at the believers |
وَإِذَا مَرُّوا بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ (30) when they passed by them, they would wink at one another |
وَإِذَا انقَلَبُوا إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِمُ انقَلَبُوا فَكِهِينَ (31) and when they went back to their people, they would return exulting |
وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوا إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ لَضَالُّونَ (32) When they saw the believers, they would say, “These people are truly misguided,” |
وَمَا أُرْسِلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ حَافِظِينَ (33) although they were not sent as their keepers |
فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ (34) So Today the believers will laugh at the disbelievers |
عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنظُرُونَ (35) while sitting on the couches, gazing around |
هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ (36) Have the disbelievers been rewarded except for what they used to do |
