وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا (1) By the sun and its brightness |
وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا (2) and by the moon as it follows it |
وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا (3) and by the day as it displays it |
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا (4) and by the night as it covers it |
وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا (5) and by the sky and how He made it |
وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا (6) and by the earth and how He spread it |
وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا (7) and by the soul and how He fashioned it |
فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا (8) then inspired it [to know] its wickedness and righteousness |
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا (9) Indeed, he who purifies his soul will attain success |
وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّاهَا (10) and he who corrupts it will be doomed |
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا (11) Thamūd rejected [the messenger] because of their transgression |
إِذِ انبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا (12) when the most wretched among them rose [to kill the camel] |
فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا (13) Although the messenger of Allah warned them, “Hands off the she-camel of Allah and her drink!” |
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا (14) Yet they rejected him and hamstrung her. So their Lord destroyed them for their sin and leveled them to the ground |
وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا (15) And He has no fear of the consequences thereof |
