هَلْ أَتَىٰ عَلَى الْإِنسَانِ حِينٌ مِّنَ الدَّهْرِ لَمْ يَكُن شَيْئًا مَّذْكُورًا (1)
Was there not a period of time when man was not a thing [even] mentioned |
إِنَّا خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ أَمْشَاجٍ نَّبْتَلِيهِ فَجَعَلْنَاهُ سَمِيعًا بَصِيرًا (2)
Indeed, We created man from a drop of mixed fluids, in order to test him. So We gave him hearing and sight |
إِنَّا هَدَيْنَاهُ السَّبِيلَ إِمَّا شَاكِرًا وَإِمَّا كَفُورًا (3)
Indeed, We showed him the way, whether he is grateful or ungrateful |
إِنَّا أَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَافِرِينَ سَلَاسِلَ وَأَغْلَالًا وَسَعِيرًا (4)
We have surely prepared for the disbelievers chains, shackles, and a Blazing Fire |
إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ يَشْرَبُونَ مِن كَأْسٍ كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا كَافُورًا (5)
Indeed, the righteous will drink from a cup [of wine] flavored with camphor |
عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا عِبَادُ اللَّهِ يُفَجِّرُونَهَا تَفْجِيرًا (6)
a spring from which Allah’s slaves will drink, which will flow as they wish |
يُوفُونَ بِالنَّذْرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا كَانَ شَرُّهُ مُسْتَطِيرًا (7)
They fulfill their vows and fear a Day whose evil will spread far and wide |
وَيُطْعِمُونَ الطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِ مِسْكِينًا وَيَتِيمًا وَأَسِيرًا (8)
and they give food, despite their love for it, to the needy, the orphans, and the captives |
إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمْ جَزَاءً وَلَا شُكُورًا (9)
[saying to themselves] “We feed you only for the sake of Allah; we seek from you neither reward nor gratitude |
إِنَّا نَخَافُ مِن رَّبِّنَا يَوْمًا عَبُوسًا قَمْطَرِيرًا (10)
We fear from our Lord a grim and distressful Day.” |
فَوَقَاهُمُ اللَّهُ شَرَّ ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمِ وَلَقَّاهُمْ نَضْرَةً وَسُرُورًا (11)
So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day, and will grant them radiance and delight |
وَجَزَاهُم بِمَا صَبَرُوا جَنَّةً وَحَرِيرًا (12)
and will reward them for their perseverance with Paradise and garments of silk |
مُّتَّكِئِينَ فِيهَا عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ ۖ لَا يَرَوْنَ فِيهَا شَمْسًا وَلَا زَمْهَرِيرًا (13)
They will recline therein on adorned couches; neither feeling scorching heat nor freezing cold |
وَدَانِيَةً عَلَيْهِمْ ظِلَالُهَا وَذُلِّلَتْ قُطُوفُهَا تَذْلِيلًا (14)
with shady branches spread above them, and clusters of fruit will be made within their reach |
وَيُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِآنِيَةٍ مِّن فِضَّةٍ وَأَكْوَابٍ كَانَتْ قَوَارِيرَا (15)
They will be served frequently with silver vessels and crystal cups |
قَوَارِيرَ مِن فِضَّةٍ قَدَّرُوهَا تَقْدِيرًا (16)
crystalline goblets of silver, filled precisely as desired |
وَيُسْقَوْنَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا زَنجَبِيلًا (17)
They will be given a glass [of wine] flavored with ginger |
عَيْنًا فِيهَا تُسَمَّىٰ سَلْسَبِيلًا (18)
from a spring therein called Salsabīl |
۞ وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ إِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ حَسِبْتَهُمْ لُؤْلُؤًا مَّنثُورًا (19)
They will be served by eternal young boys; if you see them, you would think that they are scattered pearls |
وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ ثَمَّ رَأَيْتَ نَعِيمًا وَمُلْكًا كَبِيرًا (20)
If you were to look around, you would see bliss and a vast dominion |
عَالِيَهُمْ ثِيَابُ سُندُسٍ خُضْرٌ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٌ ۖ وَحُلُّوا أَسَاوِرَ مِن فِضَّةٍ وَسَقَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ شَرَابًا طَهُورًا (21)
They will be dressed in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade, and will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink |
إِنَّ هَٰذَا كَانَ لَكُمْ جَزَاءً وَكَانَ سَعْيُكُم مَّشْكُورًا (22)
[And they will be told,] “Indeed, this is your reward, and your efforts have been appreciated.” |
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْآنَ تَنزِيلًا (23)
Indeed, it is We Who have sent down the Qur’an to you in stages |
فَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تُطِعْ مِنْهُمْ آثِمًا أَوْ كَفُورًا (24)
So be patient with your Lord’s decree, and do not obey any sinner or disbeliever from among them |
وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلًا (25)
And remember the Name of your Lord morning and evening |
وَمِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَاسْجُدْ لَهُ وَسَبِّحْهُ لَيْلًا طَوِيلًا (26)
and prostrate to Him at night, and glorify Him at length by night |
إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ يُحِبُّونَ الْعَاجِلَةَ وَيَذَرُونَ وَرَاءَهُمْ يَوْمًا ثَقِيلًا (27)
Indeed, these [pagans] love this fleeting life and pay no heed to a heavy Day ahead of them |
نَّحْنُ خَلَقْنَاهُمْ وَشَدَدْنَا أَسْرَهُمْ ۖ وَإِذَا شِئْنَا بَدَّلْنَا أَمْثَالَهُمْ تَبْدِيلًا (28)
It is We Who created them and strengthened their build. If We will, We can replace them with others like them |
إِنَّ هَٰذِهِ تَذْكِرَةٌ ۖ فَمَن شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ سَبِيلًا (29)
Indeed, this is a reminder; so let anyone who wills may take a way to his Lord |
وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا (30)
But you cannot will unless Allah wills. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise |
يُدْخِلُ مَن يَشَاءُ فِي رَحْمَتِهِ ۚ وَالظَّالِمِينَ أَعَدَّ لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا (31)
He admits whom He wills into His mercy, but for the wrongdoers He has prepared a painful punishment |
