وَالْفَجْرِ (1)
By the dawn |
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ (2)
and the ten nights |
وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ (3)
and the even and the odd |
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ (4)
and by the night when it comes |
هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِي حِجْرٍ (5)
are these oaths not sufficient for those who have sense |
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ (6)
Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with ‘Ād |
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ (7)
of Iram, who were people of great stature |
الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ (8)
the like of whom had never been created in the land |
وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ (9)
and Thamūd, who carved out the rocks in the Valley |
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ (10)
and the mighty and powerful Pharaoh |
الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ (11)
All of them transgressed in the land |
فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ (12)
and spread therein much corruption |
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ (13)
so your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment |
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ (14)
Indeed, your Lord is ever vigilant |
فَأَمَّا الْإِنسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ (15)
As for man, when he is tested by his Lord by honoring him and bestowing blessings upon him, he says, “My Lord has [deservedly] honored me!” |
وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ (16)
But when he is tested by restricting his provision, he says, “My Lord has [undeservedly] humiliated me!” |
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ (17)
No indeed! You are not kind to the orphan |
وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ (18)
nor do you urge one another to feed the needy |
وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا (19)
and you greedily consume the entire inheritance |
وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا (20)
and love wealth immensely |
كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا (21)
No indeed! When the earth is crushed over and over |
وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا (22)
and your Lord comes with the angels, rank after rank |
وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ (23)
and Hell is brought near on that Day – this is when man will understand, but what is the use of that understanding |
يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي (24)
He will say, “Would that I had sent forth something for my [eternal] life!” |
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ (25)
None can punish as He punishes on that Day |
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ (26)
and none can bind as He binds |
يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ (27)
[It will be said to the believer,] “O the tranquil soul |
ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً (28)
Return to your Lord, well pleased and pleasing [to Him] |
فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي (29)
Join My [righteous] slaves |
وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي (30)
and enter My Paradise.” |
