لَا أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ (1) I swear by the Day of Resurrection |
وَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّوَّامَةِ (2) and I swear by the self-reproaching soul |
أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنسَانُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُ (3) Does man think that We cannot reassemble his bones |
بَلَىٰ قَادِرِينَ عَلَىٰ أَن نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُ (4) In fact, We are able to restore even his very fingertips |
بَلْ يُرِيدُ الْإِنسَانُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ (5) But man desires to persists in his evil ways |
يَسْأَلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ (6) and asks [mockingly], “When is the Day of Resurrection?” |
فَإِذَا بَرِقَ الْبَصَرُ (7) But when eyes are dazzled |
وَخَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ (8) and the moon is darkened |
وَجُمِعَ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ (9) and the sun and the moon are brought together |
يَقُولُ الْإِنسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ الْمَفَرُّ (10) on that Day man will say, “Where is the escape?” |
كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ (11) No indeed! There will be no refuge |
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمُسْتَقَرُّ (12) On that Day all will end up before your Lord |
يُنَبَّأُ الْإِنسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ (13) On that Day man will be informed of what he has sent forth and left behind |
بَلِ الْإِنسَانُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ بَصِيرَةٌ (14) In fact, man will be a witness against himself |
وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُ (15) despite the excuses he may put forward |
لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ (16) Do not move your tongue [O Prophet] in haste trying to memorize it |
إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْآنَهُ (17) It is upon Us to make you memorize and recite it |
فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ (18) Then when We recite it [through Gabriel], follow its recitation attentively |
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُ (19) then it is upon Us to explain its meanings |
كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ الْعَاجِلَةَ (20) No indeed! You [people] love this fleeting world |
وَتَذَرُونَ الْآخِرَةَ (21) and neglect the Hereafter |
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ (22) On that Day some faces will be bright |
إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ (23) looking at their Lord |
وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ بَاسِرَةٌ (24) And on that Day, some faces will be gloomy |
تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ (25) knowing that a crushing calamity will befall them |
كَلَّا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ التَّرَاقِيَ (26) Indeed, when the soul reaches the throat |
وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ (27) and it is said, “Is there any healer?” |
وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ الْفِرَاقُ (28) And he realizes that it is time to depart |
وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ (29) when legs are brought together [in a shroud] |
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمَسَاقُ (30) on that Day, he will be driven to your Lord |
فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ (31) He neither believed nor prayed |
وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ (32) rather he denied and turned away |
ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ يَتَمَطَّىٰ (33) then went swaggering to his people |
أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ (34) Woe to you [O man], and woe |
ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ (35) Again, woe to you, and woe |
أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنسَانُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى (36) Does man think that he will be left neglected |
أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِيٍّ يُمْنَىٰ (37) Was he not once a drop of semen emitted |
ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ (38) then he became a clinging clot, then He created him and perfected his form |
فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنثَىٰ (39) and made from him both genders, male and female |
أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَادِرٍ عَلَىٰ أَن يُحْيِيَ الْمَوْتَىٰ (40) Is not He able to bring the dead back to life |
