وَالذَّارِيَاتِ ذَرْوًا (1) By the winds that scatters [dust] |
فَالْحَامِلَاتِ وِقْرًا (2) and by the heavily-laden clouds with water |
فَالْجَارِيَاتِ يُسْرًا (3) and by the ships that sail with ease |
فَالْمُقَسِّمَاتِ أَمْرًا (4) and by the angels who distribute [blessings] by His command |
إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَصَادِقٌ (5) Indeed, what you are promised is true |
وَإِنَّ الدِّينَ لَوَاقِعٌ (6) and the Judgment will surely come to pass |
وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْحُبُكِ (7) By the heaven with its pathways |
إِنَّكُمْ لَفِي قَوْلٍ مُّخْتَلِفٍ (8) Indeed, you [Makkans] have conflicting views [about the truth] |
يُؤْفَكُ عَنْهُ مَنْ أُفِكَ (9) He who is diverted from it is destined to be diverted |
قُتِلَ الْخَرَّاصُونَ (10) Doomed are those who base their beliefs on conjecture |
الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي غَمْرَةٍ سَاهُونَ (11) those who are steeped in ignorance heedlessly |
يَسْأَلُونَ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الدِّينِ (12) They ask [mockingly], “When is the Day of Judgment?” |
يَوْمَ هُمْ عَلَى النَّارِ يُفْتَنُونَ (13) It is the Day when they will be punished by the Fire |
ذُوقُوا فِتْنَتَكُمْ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ (14) [It will be said], “Taste your punishment! This is what you were seeking to hasten.” |
إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ (15) Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and springs |
آخِذِينَ مَا آتَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُحْسِنِينَ (16) receiving what their Lord will give them, for they were indeed doers of good beforehand |
كَانُوا قَلِيلًا مِّنَ اللَّيْلِ مَا يَهْجَعُونَ (17) They used to sleep but little at night |
وَبِالْأَسْحَارِ هُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ (18) and before dawn they would seek forgiveness |
وَفِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ لِّلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ (19) and in their wealth, there was a share for the beggar and the destitute |
وَفِي الْأَرْضِ آيَاتٌ لِّلْمُوقِنِينَ (20) On earth there are signs for those who are certain in faith |
وَفِي أَنفُسِكُمْ ۚ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ (21) and also in your own selves. Do you not see |
وَفِي السَّمَاءِ رِزْقُكُمْ وَمَا تُوعَدُونَ (22) And in the heaven is your provision and all that you are promised |
فَوَرَبِّ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ إِنَّهُ لَحَقٌّ مِّثْلَ مَا أَنَّكُمْ تَنطِقُونَ (23) By the Lord of the heaven and earth, this [resurrection] is certainly as true as the fact that you can speak |
هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ ضَيْفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْمُكْرَمِينَ (24) Has there come to you the story of Abraham’s honored guests |
إِذْ دَخَلُوا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا سَلَامًا ۖ قَالَ سَلَامٌ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ (25) When they came to him and said, “Peace.” He said, “Upon you be peace.” [saying to himself] “Unknown people!” |
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ فَجَاءَ بِعِجْلٍ سَمِينٍ (26) Then he went quickly to his household, and came with a fat [roasted] calf |
فَقَرَّبَهُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ (27) and placed it before them and said, “Will you not eat?” |
فَأَوْجَسَ مِنْهُمْ خِيفَةً ۖ قَالُوا لَا تَخَفْ ۖ وَبَشَّرُوهُ بِغُلَامٍ عَلِيمٍ (28) He perceived a fear of them. They said, “Do not be afraid,” and gave him glad tidings of a knowledgeable son |
فَأَقْبَلَتِ امْرَأَتُهُ فِي صَرَّةٍ فَصَكَّتْ وَجْهَهَا وَقَالَتْ عَجُوزٌ عَقِيمٌ (29) His wife cried out loud, and struck her face [in astonishment] and said, “[I am] a barren old woman!” |
قَالُوا كَذَٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِ ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْحَكِيمُ الْعَلِيمُ (30) They said, “This is what your Lord said. Indeed, He is the All-Wise, the All-Knowing.” |
۞ قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا الْمُرْسَلُونَ (31) Abraham said, “Then what is your mission, O messengers?” |
قَالُوا إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ (32) They said, “We have been sent to a wicked people |
لِنُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن طِينٍ (33) to send down upon them stones of clay |
مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُسْرِفِينَ (34) marked by your Lord for the transgressors.” |
فَأَخْرَجْنَا مَن كَانَ فِيهَا مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (35) We brought out those believers who were there |
فَمَا وَجَدْنَا فِيهَا غَيْرَ بَيْتٍ مِّنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ (36) but We only found in it one Muslim household [Lot's family] |
وَتَرَكْنَا فِيهَا آيَةً لِّلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ الْعَذَابَ الْأَلِيمَ (37) And We left there a sign [as a lesson] for those who fear the painful punishment |
وَفِي مُوسَىٰ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَاهُ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ بِسُلْطَانٍ مُّبِينٍ (38) And [there is a sign in the story of] Moses when We sent him to Pharaoh with compelling proofs |
فَتَوَلَّىٰ بِرُكْنِهِ وَقَالَ سَاحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ (39) But he and his supporters turned away, and he said about [Moses], “A magician or a madman!” |
فَأَخَذْنَاهُ وَجُنُودَهُ فَنَبَذْنَاهُمْ فِي الْيَمِّ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ (40) So We seized him and his soldiers, and cast them into the sea while he was blameworthy |
وَفِي عَادٍ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ الرِّيحَ الْعَقِيمَ (41) And [there is a sign in the story of] ‘Ād, when We sent against them the devastating barren wind |
مَا تَذَرُ مِن شَيْءٍ أَتَتْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَتْهُ كَالرَّمِيمِ (42) It spared nothing it came upon except that it reduced it to ruin and decay |
وَفِي ثَمُودَ إِذْ قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَمَتَّعُوا حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ (43) And [there is a sign in the story of] Thamūd, when they were told, “Enjoy yourselves for a while.” |
فَعَتَوْا عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّاعِقَةُ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ (44) But they rebelled against the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them, while they were looking on |
فَمَا اسْتَطَاعُوا مِن قِيَامٍ وَمَا كَانُوا مُنتَصِرِينَ (45) They could not withstand it, nor could they ward it off |
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمًا فَاسِقِينَ (46) And the people of Noah [were also destroyed] before them. They were indeed a rebellious people |
وَالسَّمَاءَ بَنَيْنَاهَا بِأَيْدٍ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ (47) We built the heaven with might, and We are indeed expanding it |
وَالْأَرْضَ فَرَشْنَاهَا فَنِعْمَ الْمَاهِدُونَ (48) And We spread out the earth. How well did We smooth it out |
وَمِن كُلِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَيْنِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ (49) And We have created everything in pairs, so that you may take heed |
فَفِرُّوا إِلَى اللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّي لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ (50) So flee to Allah. Indeed, I am a clear warner to you from Him |
وَلَا تَجْعَلُوا مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ ۖ إِنِّي لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ (51) And do not set up another god with Allah. Indeed, I am a clear warner to you from Him.” |
كَذَٰلِكَ مَا أَتَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا قَالُوا سَاحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ (52) Likewise, no messenger came to those before them without being told: “A magician, or a madman!” |
أَتَوَاصَوْا بِهِ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ (53) Did they suggest this to one another? Rather they are a transgressing people |
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَمَا أَنتَ بِمَلُومٍ (54) So turn away from them [O Prophet], for you are not to blame |
وَذَكِّرْ فَإِنَّ الذِّكْرَىٰ تَنفَعُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (55) But keep reminding them, for reminder benefits the believers |
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ (56) I have not created the jinn and mankind except to worship Me |
مَا أُرِيدُ مِنْهُم مِّن رِّزْقٍ وَمَا أُرِيدُ أَن يُطْعِمُونِ (57) I seek no provision from them, nor do I want them to feed Me |
إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الرَّزَّاقُ ذُو الْقُوَّةِ الْمَتِينُ (58) Indeed, it is Allah Who is the All-Provider, Lord of Power, the Mighty |
فَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا ذَنُوبًا مِّثْلَ ذَنُوبِ أَصْحَابِهِمْ فَلَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونِ (59) Indeed, those who do wrong will have a share [of [punishment] like that of their predecessors, so let them not ask Me to hasten it |
فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِن يَوْمِهِمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ (60) So woe to those who disbelieve from [the punishment of] the Day which they are promised |
